Our History

The Advocacy for Women Ebola Survival, Street Children and Raped Victims in Sierra Leone (AWESSCRV-SL) started in 2017 when the founder, James Moore first travelled to Port Loko District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. During his stay, he came to realise that there are a lot of violence against women and children especially children without parents and Ebola survivor. He also realised the same violence against women and children ranging from rape cases in court and other areas in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

As a father with 2 sons and 2 adopted daughters and, also a brother with several sisters, he felt so bad about this issue for women, and children to the point that he sometimes asked some of his friends that are Police Officers, working with the Family Support Unit to identify some rape victims. He then had a quiet moment on this issue as to how to come in and help women, and children that are facing these challenges in Sierra Leone.

He later came up with the idea of setting up a non-profit charity organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable women and children in Sierra Leone. Then shortly after AWESSCRV-SL was founded.
