A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN AGAINST RAPE IN SIERRA LEONE

The campaign against sexual offences in the country continues to gain momentum by passing on the new sexual offences bill and the First Lady hands of our girl campaign and also the seriousness president Boi attaches to the fight against a sexual offence especially rape and sexual penetration. This campaign attracted the attention for not only international partners but also non-governmental organizations including the Awareness Campaign against on rape sexual violence and penetration.

The organization has been targeting communities and schools by providing psychosocial counselling and other forms of support such as the provision of school furniture and learning materials.

The Chief Executive Officer of AWESSCRV-SL, James Moore said his organization is working closely with the Family Support Unit of the Sierra Leone Police to prosecute perpetrators. Mr Moore said that funds to implement his organization are generated by the membership of the C.G.K.V Church in Holland and some well-meaning Sierra Leoneans. He further said that the motivation behind setting up this organization in 2017 was to complement the effort of the government in addressing some of the social issues affecting women and girls in Sierra Leone.

One of the senior teachers of Enzo Primary School, Juba, Mohamed Kamara, appreciated AWESSCRV-SL for the intervention, adding that, there is a campaign that must continue to save the future of women and girls in Sierra Leone. A nursery school teacher, Hawa Koroma condemns all such of sexual violence women and girls, she called for purity action to be taken against defaulters as the future of the girls must be protected. She commended AWESSCRV-SL for supporting the First Lady’s hands of our girls campaign.
